KING ATHELSTAN

The first King to unite all the people who called England their home.

King Athelstan, the first King of England, was crowned in Kingston in a church that stood on the site where All Saints Church sits today

In 2014, thanks to our lovely friends at The Heritage Lottery Fund, we fully researched King Athelstan's story and discovered that he was an absolute legend.  Brought up by his fierce Aunty Aethelflaed, he fought off the Vikings and became the first King to rule all of England.  He was also the first to wear a crown and have his head put on a coin wearing said crown.

We now work in partnership with All Saints Church telling this story to as many people as we possibly can!

These pages are being developed over the next few months, but for now you'll find a timeline of Athelstan's life, and some resources to help you explore his story!
