King Athelstan was crowned in Kingston Upon Thames on the 4th Sept 925AD, and went on to become the first King of England.

We present the research that showed the real Dick Whittington probably didn’t come to London via Highgate Hill, but sailed in on the River Thames, staying at Kingston overnight (I know – exciting!!!). There’s also some fun stuff and educational resources for all ages.

‘The Christmas Crocodile’ is based on the true story of the Kingston Crocodile, a toy made by Munitionettes at the Sopwith Aviation Company in Kingston, sold in Bentalls at Christmas as “The most modern toy ever invented!”

After WW2, Bentalls used to hold a Christmas Parade through Kingston, and on the final and finest float was Father Christmas and his trusty elf, Jimminy Jingle. But time moved on, the parade got cancelled, and Jimminy Jingle missed the sleigh back to the North Pole. So where is he now? And can he get home?
