About the event

IMMERSIVE THEATRE SHOW IN THE CONSERVATORY

Story Storks presents The First Father Christmas, the Fabulously Funny Christmassy tale of St Nicholas specially written for kids from 2 years up.

We join St Nick as he embarks on a mission to save three girls from slavery with bags of gold coins (real ones, not chocolate!) But should he get caught, the gold will be refused. How can he get the money into the house without being seen, especially as the windows and doors are locked? Does anyone have a ladder!

Set in Roman-occupied Turkey, this immersive theatre show will take place IN THE CONSERVATORY and is suitable for those of all religions (or none) and tells how St Nicholas’s generosity gave rise to Christmas Traditions that we still celebrate today, including hanging stockings in the fireplace, munching on gold coins and why the big man himself comes down the chimney at Christmastime.

WHERE IS THE SHOW

The show is in the Conservatory, a studio space at The Exchange, Twickenham. The space is ample and suitable for children to move around and sit on the floor.

HOW MUCH ARE THE TICKETS

Adults and kids must buy a ticket for the show, priced at £8 each. Babes in arms come for free (see more details below)

HOW LONG IS THE SHOW?

The show is approx. 45 mins, but it takes us a while to get everyone in and out, so we allow an hour.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT?

The ‘set’ will be around the outside of the studio and the kids will sit in the middle initially. We get up and move around the space, visiting the different parts of the set as we move between ‘locations’. Grown-ups will be provided with a chair around the edge to sit and enjoy the show. It’s up to your kids if they join in or not. They are welcome to stay with you and enjoy the show if they are happier. Equally, grown-ups are more than welcome to join in the fun, and I imagine that for some of you, your kids won’t give you a choice!

THE PARENTS ROLE

We want you to enjoy the show as much as the kids. However, we must stress that your child remains your responsibility throughout the performance. Some kids can get very excited by the interactive nature. We ask that you ensure your child is joining in safely and is not putting the other children at risk. The storyteller will ask children who become too excited to rejoin their parents for a minute or two to regulate before inviting them back into the story. We also respectfully ask that you don’t gossip with friends during the performance, but please do feel free to talk to your child. Some children benefit from additional parent narration, and we would thoroughly encourage that. Please could you also ensure that your children don’t touch the set!

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Fancy dress is thoroughly encouraged. Otherwise, something comfortable in which you can move. Children will be required to keep their shoes on.

CAN I BRING MY BABY?

Of course! We love babies at Story Storks. If your child is babes in arms, i.e. under 18 months, they come for free. If you think your child will want to join in, we ask you to pay for a space for them.

CAN WE EAT AND DRINK

Yes, but please keep all food and drink to the side of the room. All drinks must have a lid on them.

MY CHILD IS SEN. WILL THIS WORK FOR THEM?

Absolutely. The performance is extremely relaxed, with lots of interaction with the storyteller. Our storyteller on this occasion is a trained teacher who has a good amount of experience working with kids with needs. We encourage you to contact us first so that we can discuss the individual needs of your child and make reasonable adjustments.
